The Four Postures: a 7-day workshop with Patrick Kearney and Kit Laughlin – WITHDRAWN

Sat 10 to Fri 16 March 2018

This workshop was withdrawn from the schedule on 10 January 2018.

Patrick and Kit have been co-teaching meditation retreats for more than five years, both in Australia and in Buddhist monasteries in Asia.

Please join us for what promises to be a wonderful event.

This is a non-residential workshop. Daily hours are 7.45 am to 6 pm. Attendees will find accommodation opportunities at the Greenwell Point link below. Each day we will be taking a generous lunch break (90 minutes) and there are a number of local venues for lunch. You are very welcome to bring your own food and enjoy the environment around the venue. If you would like to share accommodation with another attendee, please advise Olivia (email below) and she will help facilitate.

The Buddha teaches that mindfulness of body in the four postures of moving, standing, sitting and lying down allows entry into a limitless mind. Mindfulness is learned through systematically training attention to develop a felt continuity of awareness of body and mind.

Physical sensation exists only in the present, and so mindfulness of body grounds us naturally in the present. In contrast, when we are lost in the endless narratives of the mind we are convinced of the reality of past and future, and are disconnected from our natural embodiment.

As we cultivate a felt intimacy with the body we are opened to a deeper understanding of the activities of mind. We discover that “body” and “mind” are not separate entities distantly related to each other but different facets of a unified network of experience, and this understanding brings relaxation to the body, joy to the heart and understanding to the mind.

Patrick Kearney teaches satipaṭṭhāna, the applications of mindfulness, in the lineage of Mahāsī Sayādaw. He applies the Buddha’s teachings to our everyday life in the contemporary world.

Kit Laughlin is the Stretch Therapy founder. He is a long time meditation practitioner who brings to his practice a depth of knowledge of the human body rarely found in the specialised world of Buddhist meditation.
